Hi, I’m Gemma. This is a picture of me taken by my sister a couple of years ago. I’m wearing my apple watch, which is now dead in a drawer as I could never really get it to work. I hope I have more success with Substack!
I like to help people process their grief. I am a trained Master NLP Practitioner, and am training to be an advanced clinical hypnotherapist. I have also trained with best selling authors and therapists Hope Edelman and Claire Bidwell-Smith, specifically around early mother loss. However one of my greatest therapies has been to write. I wrote reems of poems after my Mum died when I was 12, and since then I have found it one of the most effective methods for repressed emotions to leave my body.
In February I attended a Silk Roads Slippers memoir writing course hosted by
and it gave me a lot of confidence, so here I am!I have a yearning to write about the way grief feels, the way you anticipate it, the acuteness of it, and what Hope Edelman so aptly refers to as The Aftergrief - in her book of the same name.
In my own small way, I want to add my voice to the destigmatisation of grief, to open up conversations around death, and to share my story so that those who are grieving know they are not alone.
I may also write about non-grief related things too - let’s see how I go!
